While a master’s student in conducting at the New England Conservatory of Music, he led performances with the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, and Undergraduate Opera Studio. Vogel conducted the US premiere of Salvatore Sciarrino’s Stupori and worked with student composers and the Lab Orchestra to record over 15 new works. For Beethoven250, he collaborated with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, NEC, and DHL to arrange a shortened version of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony for video broadcast.
As a bass, Vogel is equally comfortable on the recital and operatic stages. Recent roles include Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Figaro and Don Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro), Senca (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Tom (Un Ballo in Maschera), and Colline (La Bohème). While living in Houston, he was a principal bass, assistant chorus master, and cover conductor for Opera in the Heights and appeared in six critically-acclaimed productions with the Houston Grand Opera. Vogel’s last recital tour, Songs of the American Civil War, was heard in nine cities across France and Italy.
Vogel earned his MM in Instrumental Conducting and BM in Classical Vocal Performance from New England Conservatory of Music.
